How does a green environment help speed up recovery of patients?
Positive health effects of a green environment are well known, generally speaking. At VU University in Amsterdam clinical psychologists are setting up a four year research project, aimed at measuring the effects of ‘green’ on patients’ suffering from pain, stress and negative feelings in general. Earlier research primarily concerned the wellbeing of people in general. This project will lead to directly applicable green interventions that will speed up recovery of patients and thus lead to decreasing costs of treatment. One of the examples to be studied further is the ‘Chemotuin’, a green environment for patients undergoing chemical treatments for cancer.
The VU research project is initiated by FloraHolland and the iVerde Foundation, as part of the ‘Green Agenda’.
