‘Green Healthy Cities’ was one of the main themes during the 2015 edition of the Green Week conference in Brussels. Economically healthy, because a green environment attracts investment and healthy in a literal sense, since ‘eco-therapy’, helps patients recover from illness and leads to lower health costs. George Ferguson, mayor of Green Capital 2015 Bristol, told the audience about the range of environmental projects in his city, including the ‘One tree per child’ planting initiative.

Copenhagen was Europe’s Green Capital in 2014 and Lykke Leonardsen, head of het city’s Climate Unit, explained how city planners in the Danish capital now use nature based green and multifunctional ninfrastructure to control floods like the one that in July 2011 caused great damage.
